Rainbow water

Go back

Summer

Such an amazing afternoon observing the children, free to mix and explore water and paint creating their own rainbow water. This all started as a child asked to have some colour in the water that was provided in the large metal tubs. Together we looked at what we could use to colour the water we offered food colouring, inks, ready mix paint and powder paints. The child chose ready mix and he then led the way and experimenting through play.

Using the bottles to squeeze in different colour paints, he found large syringes and started to squirt water into the metal tub, this created a swirl of mesmerizing colours, "Look there is a Rainbow in the water" the children said so excitedly. They continued to investigate and explore for over an hour, mixing the water, the colours and using different authentic resources for play,

You will need...

  • A deep container for the water, here we used the metal large tubs from TTS
  • Ready mix paint
