An Easel with a difference

Go back

Summer

This is one of the children's favourite Easels in our nursery and we can see why, what better way to have the opportunity to paint on a large vertical scale than painting inside an old bookcase with a mirror? This bookcase was originally used as a bookcase when we first had it, however the shelves just were not suitable. In true curiosity style we decided to remove the shelves leaving the huge mirror in the back, it created a brilliant painting easel to which it is used every single day.

The base provides a brilliant shelf for storing the paints and brushes and the children just love to create on the easel. It is super easy and quick to wash off ready for the next creation and we can also take photographs of the children's creations too to add to their online journal or to send out to parents. So it saves a lot of paper being used too.

This sturdy unit could easily be replicated in your setting, source charity shops for a suitable piece of furniture, bookcases that have removable shelves are ideal, you can get custom made to fit mirrors that you can glue to the back of the piece of furniture. Add brushes and paints and let the creativity commence,

Top Tip- add a tiny bit of liquid soap or washing up liquid to the paints and it makes removing the paint from the glass a lot easier.
