Looking to start an autumn ritual ?

At The Curiosity Approach®️ we follow a mindful approach and move forward from planned activities and routines. Looking to create experiences that serve the whole child, mind body and soul.

To bring rituals into daily life. A ritual turns an ordinary routine or experience from ‘ordinary to extraordinary’, to come together as adult and child and reflect, discuss and appreciate the natural world and all the people, things and moments we hold dear.

By bringing rituals into daily life, we can pause and be present in the moment. It can be a special time in which connections and relationships are built, between adult and child. A time to ease transitional moments.

A time that is intentional and purposeful. Mindful as apposed to mindless.
Instead of welcoming children into our settings in a normal, mundane routine way, why not create a beautiful ritual within your setting. At one of our Curiosity Approach nurseries. we have created the wondrous ritual of connection between adult and child. Children and educators come together, to pause, reflect and discuss all the things they are grateful for. They have started the ritual of a gratitude or thankful pumpkin. As children enter our setting, the ritual is for adult and child to take a moment to join together in shared gratitude.

What is gratitude

Gratitude

is one of many positive emotions. It's about focusing on what's good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have.

Gratitude is pausing to notice and appreciate the things that we often take for granted,

like having a place to live, food, clean water, friends and family. It's taking a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are when something good happens

— whether it's a small thing or a big thing.

Although it might seem like gratitude should be spontaneous rather than rehearsed, making gratitude a habit can ensure that children practice it on

a regular basis, and it can become like second nature.

Many routines can be transformed into a ritual, this can be anything from sleep or nap time, meals and snacks. A time of transition, that creates a

safe, secure space through the mindful and conscious approach. An emotionally rich experience which allows the child the opportunity for self regulation

and emotional literacy. It’s a deep awareness of how to help children transition through the day, instead of deliverance of routines on autopilot,

and without meeting their individual needs.

Everyday early childhood routines are a gold mine for finding rituals. That allows you and your staff to make a “psychological shift that impacts your attitudes and reactions.” Toni Christie
